Excavation and earthmoving · Mackay

How much does Excavation and earthmoving cost in Mackay? (2026 price guide)

Basic excavation work is typically charged at $100-$180 per hour for a machine and operator, or $600-$1,500 per day for larger jobs. Digging footings or trenches for a standard extension usually costs $1,500-$5,000, while a full site cut and level for a new build can run $5,000-$20,000 depending on ground conditions and volume of material to move.

The main cost drivers are soil type (rock excavation costs significantly more than clay or sand), site access for machinery, how much material needs to be removed from site versus reused, and whether services like stormwater or drainage are being installed at the same time.

Get a site inspection before pricing, as unexpected rock or contaminated soil can significantly change costs partway through a job - ask what happens to the price if conditions differ from the quote.
